Music
The National Curriculum talks of a high-quality music education which engages and inspires pupils and this is what we hope to provide at Thurton CE Primary School. Music plays a large part in our school life and children and staff regularly listen and respond to music, as well as singing together in Collective Worship assemblies and in class. We want children to use music to learn, to bring joy, to express and understand emotions and to perform for family and friends.
By providing a music specialist to teach weekly lessons to the children in Year 2 – Year 6, following the Kapow Music Curriculum, the children have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of musical concepts and genres, with a regular opportunity to demonstrate their growing knowledge through practical work. Through this, we will cover all areas of the National Curriculum.
By the end of their time at Thurton Primary School, we hope to have provided the children numerous opportunities to engage with music of all different types; to listen to and evaluate a range of music, to create and compose their own music, to perform both as part of an ensemble and on their own, and to be inspired to pursue music in their own time.
Music is highly regarded and celebrated at Thurton CE Primary School. Children are given regular chances to perform and are encouraged to pursue music, both through school and out of school.
Our music specialist, Mrs. George-Broom, regularly feeds back to children about their progress during lessons and discusses more formal assessment and feedback with class teachers.
Feedback is given to parents at termly learning conferences and yearly reports.
Children leave Thurton CE Primary School having been exposed to a variety of musical styles and instruments, having been given the opportunity to develop a love of performing musically and having had the opportunity to play tuned and un-tuned instruments.
